Social Media Optimization vs. Social Media Marketing

Posted on 31st 12月 2011 in Social Media Blog

Let us talk about Social Media Marketing (SMM) first. SMM proves very beneficial to gain exposure and publicity for a small business unit. Over the wide ranging internet, there are many tools through which one can market one’s business and connect to the social media. Blogging is the basic and foremost means through which you can let the world know about your business, your services and products. It is an informal way of putting your message across to the concerned parties. It serves as an efficient platform to showcase the company’s updates, releases and references.

Blogging sites include Blogger, WordPress etc. The next tool for successful SMM or brand design is micro Blogging. This is similar to Blogging however, it has restricted characters and one only has the option of a few words. The best example of micro Blogging website is Twitter. Another means that has improved SMM is the participation in social networking websites like Facebook. These sites serve as a public forum and a virtual way of connecting with customers and clients. Lastly there are social bookmarking sites where one can submit the webpages, the articles and the blogs. This is a way of coming into the visibility of users in the online media.

When we turn to Social Media Optimization, we see not much difference expect for the change in one word. Concentrating on the word Optimization, we can draw that SMO is all about generating popularity (like SMM) but with a difference. In order to conduct SMO for a webpage firstly there is a need to increase the linkability. This simply means that distributing your webpage’s links at the right places all across the online world to be in the visibility of potential customers. Secondly, appearing on top bookmarking sites is essential and therefore the insertion of tags like “add to del.icio.us” makes the tagging process easier. Appearing in the initial pages of searches is the motive after all and for that one aspect is inbound links. Have as many inbound links as possible for your website through your blogs etc. This boosts the webpage’s ranking greatly. Have flexible content that can be used by many. Submit it on as many relevant sites to help it travel across the World Wide Web.

Social Media Marketing With Social Bookmarking Sites – Build Links For Free

Posted on 12th 10月 2011 in Social Media Blog

You’ve probably heard the buzz about social media marketing (SMM). One of the components of SMM is social bookmarking. With the right advice and the right strategy, you can use social bookmarking to boost links to your company site and increase your site’s relevance for the keywords that pertain to your business.

The Opportunities in Social Bookmarking

Inbound links to your website are tremendously important to your search engine ranking. In fact, most search engine marketing experts believe that Google’s ranking algorithm is weighted far more heavily towards links than it is to keywords.

SMM offers many ways to generate these links for little or no cost – articles, social media sites and blogs are just a few examples. Social bookmarking is another.

With bookmarking, you save bookmarks to blog posts, articles and web pages (including your own). You tag them with a “keyword” of your own choosing (preferably related to your business). You can then add a “tag cloud” to your website. The tag cloud contains the tags you have created and directs users to the bookmarks you have saved for that tag.

What is the benefit for your business? Each bookmark links to your website or blog. With tag clouds, each keyword appears on your site, increasing the site’s relevance. Between the bookmarking site and the tag cloud on your website, you have a really great cross-promotional tool that opens up myriad opportunities for people to find you.

Consider the website of a Toronto marketing firm. They have a tag cloud with words like Toronto, search marketing, social media, blogging and so on. Each time someone visits their site, that person can click a tag and find the company’s bookmarks. They can then share those bookmarks with other users, which will point those users back to the marketing firm’s site.

Going in the other direction, people searching a bookmarking site may find the marketing firm’s bookmarks. Seeing that the company has posted some interesting and valuable articles on online marketing, they decide to visit the company’s site and add it to their social bookmarking network.

The Challenges of Social Bookmarking for Businesses

Like any kind of social media marketing, social bookmarking is low-cost, at least in terms of money. Where the “costs” escalate is in time. To do social bookmarking right, you need time to evaluate the various sites, add your bookmarks, comment on them, and interact with other users who share your interests. It is a big job.

Let’s look at the first step – deciding which sites to use. If you do a search for the top social bookmarking sites, you’ll get a huge list, like the one published on ebizMBA. So which ones do you choose? Delicious is one of the biggest, but would it be better to go for a smaller site, like furl or faves.com? Is it better to use all three, plus some social news sites, like Digg or Reddit?

Once you have made that decision, you need to decide how and when you will create the content you want to bookmark. Blogs, articles – what is the right amount of content and how often do you need to create it? You can really only answer that question by looking at social bookmarking as part of your overall social media marketing plan.

Answers to Your Social Media Marketing Questions

Social bookmarking and social media marketing are powerful marketing tools. To make the most of them you need to devote a lot of attention to the sites and create content regularly. You also need a comprehensive social media marketing plan that incorporates all of your content initiatives and your efforts to create bookmarks that direct people to that content.

A marketing agency that specializes in SMM can get you started. They can help you navigate the sites, schedule your content and get involved in the social media sphere. Even if you just sign on for a short-term contract to get started, you will find the SMM firm an invaluable partner in your “new media” marketing plans.

Using Social Media To Generate Sales Leads

Posted on 26th 9月 2011 in Social Media Blog

Social media is a cross-cultural, political, gender and generation phenomenon and accordingly presents an ample opportunity to generate sales leads.  Social media is a powerful tool to find target audiences and build relationships, ultimately, it should serve as a referral tool to your product or service offering — typically on a branded webpage. That said, to funnel users to your website, there are several steps:

Identify and focus on 2-3 social networks — There are dozens upon dozens of social networks across the web. Unless you have unlimited resources, you’ll be hard pressed to penetrate most of them.  To determine which is right for you and your efforts, identify the social network your customers are most likely to join. If they are design-savvy Gen Yers, consider Tumblr or if they enjoy photography, Flickr might be the best place to begin building your brand. Try to think beyond Facebook and MySpace. Yes, nearly every demographic is under the Facebook umbrella and there are reasons to use Facebook, but take a moment to confirm that’s where you’ll get the most impact. Consider the opportunity to have more intimate relationship with prospective customers at a smaller, more focused community.

Craft a compelling brand message –  Users want to identify with a brand. Consider Nike’s identity. Customers buy Nike because the brand gives them the confidence to succeed — much like an effective coach. To build a compelling brand message, personify you brand by using adjectives and images of people your brand would be if it were a person. By thinking of your brand as a person, it will help build a compelling brand story and message.

Build a sales funnel — After you’ve used your brand personality and message to find and target users, you must direct them to your website to gather additional information through expanded product offerings. What information should you gather? Start with email address, company and potentially a phone number. But users won’t just fork over their personal information — you must create a compelling reason or a carrot at the end of the stick. It’s not good enough to have a website. Consider a free trial offer of your new software or provide a free 30 minute consultation. Once you have their information, consider connecting your information to a sales and newsletter manager such as SalesForce and Constant Contact. From there, you can begin building stronger relationships with participants.

Deepen relationships with participants — Not everyone that visits your site or social profile wants to participate. Typically, very few stay for more than a couple of minutes, leave and never return. However, there is a small percentage of users that might comment on a white paper via SlideShare.net, send an email with a question about your new video or respond to a newsletter. When the participant reaches out, they are saying I care about what you’re doing. Respond in a timely manner and ensure all questions are answered. The user could be your next client.

Make the sale — Not every person that reaches out to you wants your product or service. However, after the user has read several white papers or you have a dialog with them, it’s fair to assume they’re interested in your product or service offering. The next step is making the sale. If the user has clearly benefited from several white papers, chances are they will pay for them…

How to Effectively Use Social Media for Marketing Your Business

Posted on 10th 9月 2011 in Social Media Blog

In this “online generation”, you will not be surprised anymore to see people from different age groups tinkering with their laptops, tablets, and smart phones all the time. This generation has become dependent on the internet for all their needs. Gone are the days when the internet is set mainly for research, nowadays, you can shop and order food online! Because of the huge popularity of the internet, most entrepreneurs, big and small, have been utilizing the internet to grow their businesses. A lot of them have discovered how to use social media for marketing.

With various tools for marketing that are available for business owners, social media is probably the most effective, yet inexpensive tool. Aside from generating interest to your own webpage by going to social networking sites, another form of media marketing is blog marketing.

Why blog? Blogging is easy, inexpensive, and downright effective! Why not? Blogs and marketing seem to be synonymous in today’s “online generation”. One important benefit of blogging is that you can easily present your company’s latest product innovations. Blogs are like telling stories – you can subtly present a new product or service without directly telling your readers to avail of the product or service. You can write in the blog how a customer’s problem or issue was resolved because of availing your latest product or service.

]]>

Social media for marketing should not come across as a press release. You should be able to establish a connection with your readers, rather than just presenting your products and/or services in a blog. Building a lasting relationship with your customers is important if you want to maintain a loyal clientele. Blogs work more effectively in promoting your business, than, say giving out flyers as people walk by on the streets – you are not really sure if the people who get the flyers will eventually read them or just throw them away as trash.

Blogs can be used together with other social networking sites. You can create links from these social networks back to your webpage or blog. You just have to make sure that you have an interesting blog and that you make use of strategic keyword content so that you can maximize search engines. One surefire strategy is to submit a blog article to reputable article directory sites. These article directory sites will create links to your company’s webpage, thus helping you in page ranking. With this marketing strategy, you get to reach more people with just a few mouse clicks.

So how do you effectively use blog marketing to your advantage?

First, you can create links to your webpage through your blog. People nowadays are more scrutinizing with the products and/or services they would like to avail so it is important that you keep your blogs updated. You should also be able to generate and sustain interest by posting only information that will add value to your business.

Blogs can also be used to promote and sell products; providing consumers with a review of some of the most popular product brands today.

With all the benefits that you can get from blog marketing, why not try it for your own business. If you worry about not having the resources or the capability to create and maintain a blog, you can easily avail of the services of an outsourcing company, specifically handling blog management and maintenance. With companies like Constant Social, you can concentrate more on your business while they handle your marketing plan.

Social media for marketing is probably one of the most excellent benefits that internet has given!
